Terry Genever is the Land Management Officer for the Cairns Regional Council’s Natural Areas Revegetation Unit. He has been working for the Cattana Wetlands revegetation for three years, and at the Council’s nursery has helped get over 10,000 endemic plants ready for planting at Cattana. Terry is very proud of the high rate of survival of the plants. He sees Cattana as an important site, especially for the rare and threatened plants. He is enthusiastic about the plants which provide food for some of Cairns butterflies. One of the best parts of the job, he says, is collecting seeds from Cattana trees, growing them, then working with volunteer groups such as the Conservation Volunteers Australia to plant them. |
